Thanksgiving 2010

The kid / teenager / young adult table

My mother in law, Kathy makes gorgeous cross stitched pieces.  She made this pilgrim scene and thought I could use it.  I thought the kid's table was a perfect place for it!

    Love these girls!

Ethan, stuffing his face!  He has turned into such an eater lately!!

    The big kid table

I found these baskets of fruit and leaves at Wal-Mart for $5 each!  I'd say that was a steal!!

My sweet Aunt LaTrelle!  She is such a talented seamstress!  I can't wait to show you her bedroom redo and all the lovely things she made by hand!

Love this man!  My Uncle Eddie is the best!  He helped Aunt LaTrelle with their bedroom.  He is a jack of all trades!

My beautiful mother, Pam, and my sweetheart sister, Megan

    Our sweet cousin, Ameila

So does this happen at your house?  The big kids, and by big kids I mean men, play video games at your house? My man just got Gran Tourismo in, and they HAD to play!  After that, the game gets turned on.  My big men loved every minute of it!

    Great table talk
The best thing about having Thanksgiving at your home, is the leftovers and the house is clean!!  We feasted that night and enjoyed every morsel.  The next day we slept in, and started our Christmas decorating!  I can't wait for it all to be done!  Hope everyone has a blessed weekend!

Buckets Galore

I am loving this look!  Putting your Christmas tree in a galvanized bucket or urn is too cute!  I am on the hunt myself for a galvanized bucket.  Here are some inspiration pictures so you get the idea!

I love these white buckets from Ballard Designs.  They look great on a table as well.  I'll be sharing Thanksgiving pictures soon!  Hope everyone had a great day of eating and visiting with loved ones!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you and your family have a very blessed Thanksgiving day!  I am so very thankful for my wonderful family and dear friends!  God truly blesses me each and every day with the people in my life.

Every year, I have to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.  It's a  tradition!  Even if I'm busy cooking, I have to at least hear it in the background.  I love me some Radio City Rockettes!

I just love these old postcards.  Especially this one.  The bright colors are just beautiful.  Get to bed early if you are shopping on Black Friday!

Buttery Cornbread

This cornbread recipe is so good, it'll make you want to slap your momma!  That's southern talk for really really good!  This is a staple around my house and is so simple to throw together.  My husband says it's like cake, and I tend to agree with him!

Here is what you will need

    1 stick butter-melted
    1c. sugar
    3 eggs
    1 2/3 c. milk
    2 1/3 c. flour
    1 c. yellow corn meal
    4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    Bake at 400
    25-28 minutes until golden brown

    Cream butter and sugar together

Beat in your eggs and milk

Add remaining dry ingredients and mix well

Pour into a greased casserole dish and bake

Make sure it is crispy brown and done completely in center

Then enjoy!  We love to eat this with some yummy stew on a cold night!  I hope you love this as much as we do.  Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Place Cards

O.k people, I have a mini Martha Stewart on my hands!!!  My 12 year old loves to watch Martha and get on her website to look at crafts.  She decided that we needed place cards for the family this year.  I know, I should have thought of that. right?  I have to admit, I'm really not THAT crafty!  So, I'm pretty glad that Kailey is!  She searched Martha online and found these precious turkeys, and she got busy!

She cut out 19 of these things!!!  The only thing I helped with was wrapping the back with yarn to look like it's tail!  She even hot glued it together!  I told her I was so proud of her!  I think she did a great job!

Here is the finished turkey place card!  She can't wait to place these around the tables on Thursday!  The good news is, we can use these every year!  Good job sweetie!

Christmas Delight!

I don't know about you, but this kitchen gets my Christmas decorating juices flowing!!  I am having Thanksgiving at my house this year, so I can't break out the Christmas tree yet.  But, we are listening to Christmas music non stop in the car and at home.  Nothing but Bing and Sinatra for me!

I just love all the natural garland laying around everywhere.  The black letters spelling "NOEL" is lovely!

I just can't wait to get started!!!  Hope you have  a blessed evening!

Grandma's Pecan Pie

Today, I made yummy pecan pies!  Every year, my daughter's school sends each teacher home with a pie for Thanksgiving and this year I made my Grandmother's Pecan Pie.

Here is everything you will need.  I went the easy route and bought a pre made crust.  It was a good thing I did because I got a phone call saying my little man was sick!  Strep throat is visiting our house tonight!  Yuck!

The recipe is pretty much the same on the back of the Karo syrup bottle with just a few tweaks that make it a better pie.

    Pre heat oven to 350

1/2 c. Karo light corn syrup
    1/2 c.  syrup (I used Aunt Jemima)
    3 eggs
    1 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. melted butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. flour
    1-1/2 c. chopped pecans
1 unbaked 9 inch deep dish pie crust

Stir the first 7 ing. (you can beat with a mixer)
Mix in pecans with a spoon
    Pour into pie crust
Bake for 60 to 70 minutes

Adding the flour and the maple syrup makes all the difference in the world!  For me, a full cup of Karo was just a little too sweet.  This is a perfect blend!  Hope you enjoy it!
